The Tigers improved to 3-1 on the season and have proven themselves to be one of the best defensive teams in the nation over that four-game stretch. Clemson has held three opponents under 50 points â two of whom were held to 33 points â and held the number one team in the nation below its points per game average and field goal percentage, as well. The Tigers rank second in the ACC and 22nd in the nation in field goal defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 32.9% from the floor. Clemson also leads the ACC and is seventh in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 46.8 points per game.
Mia Moore will be playing against the team she played for last season. Upon arrival in Birmingham, Moore quickly became one of the most unique players in the nation. Last season, Moore was named to the American All-Newcomer and All-Conference teams. She ranked in the top five in the AAC in rebounding, field goal, and free-throw percentage last season. She was one of just 25 players in the nation to lead her team in points, points per game, field goal percentage, rebounds, rebounds per game, and steals per game. Moore also recorded 13 double-doubles last season. This season, Moore is second on the team averaging over 12 points per game and she leads the Tigers with 7.8 rebounds per contest.
Loyal McQueen has had the best four-game stretch of her career and has set new single-game career highs in points (22 vs NC Central), rebounds (seven vs. Jackson State), and has tied her single-game career high for assists (seven vs. Jackson State).McQueen leads the Tigers by averaging nearly 17 points per game. Depending on tournament results, there is potential for McQueen to play Alabama â the school she attended last year â in this weekâs Emerald Coast Classic.
As a team, Clemson has shot more free throws than its competition in all four games it has played. The Tigers currently lead the nation in free-throw shooting and are averaging over 87% as a team.
