CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers women’s basketball team (9-5, 2-1) continues its four-game homestand against the Stanford Cardinal (8-5, 0-2). This is the first-ever meeting between Clemson and Stanford.
The game will tip off at 2:00 p.m. and can be seen on the CW with Tom Werme and Kelley Deyo on the call. It can also be heard on 105.5 The Roar or the Clemson Tigers app with William Qualkinbush and Faxon Childress on the broadcast.
Clemson comes into the game following a quad one win against the no. 20 California Golden Bears. It was Clemson’s first win against a ranked opponent since beating no. 23 Florida State on February 26, 2023. Cal entered Thursday’s game as the 10th-best three-point shooting team in the nation, but Shawn Poppie’s defense held Cal to just 4-20 (20%) from outside.
As a team, the Tigers start the new year ranking 14th in the nation in three-point shooting (38%). Clemson had a historic shooting performance at No. 22 NC State. The Tigers set a program record for most three pointers made in a single game with 15. Hannah Kohn also set new career highs in points scored (18) and three pointers made in a game (six). Kohn’s performance ranks as tied for third most three-pointers in a game in school history. Sunday’s contest against Stanford could see some elite shooting, as the Cardinal come to Littlejohn as the third-best shooting team from outside in the nation (39.8%).
Florence, S.C. native Loyal McQueen is having the best season of her career. McQueen has been an elite distributor and playmaker for the Tigers this season. McQueen ranks in or near the top 25 in the NCAA in assists (77 – 21st), assists per game (5.5 – 27th), and assist percentage (34.4% – 20th). Prior to this season, McQueen’s career high in assists in a single game was seven. In addition to her passing prowess, McQueen has been the Tigers’ leading scorer this season with an average of 13.7 points per game, including an 18-point outburst in Clemson’s game against Cal. The Tiger point guard is averaging career highs in points per game, rebounds per game (3.6), assist per game, field goal percentage (43.4%), and three-point percentage (50%).
Mia Moore has been a tremendous pickup form the transfer portal for Shawn Poppie and company. Moore has been the team’s second-leading scorer (11.6 ppg) and rebounder (5.6), and, based on percentage, has been the team’s best qualified three-point shooter (44.2%). Moore has had a string of special performances, including a 23 point and six rebound effort against no. 22 NC State, then followed that with 14 points, five rebounds, and three steals against California.
