PREVIEW

  • Clemson takes an 27-10 overall record and 6-6 ACC record into the three-games series at Pittsburgh.
  • The Tigers will face the Panthers for the second time in program history, the first being right before the pandemic hit.
  • The Tigers have outscored opponents 187-80 in games this season, including run-ruling 10 opponents.
  • Clemson has 259 hits through 37 games, including posting 39 doubles and 42 home runs.
  • The Tigers have the seventh strongest schedule in the country entering week nine and sit with at No. 12 on the RPI list.

GUIMBARDA GREATNESS

  • Graduate Marissa Guimbarda has been a key contributor to Clemson’s offense over the past three seasons.
  • Prior to her time in the Orange and Regalia, Guimbarda played two seasons at Furman.
  • Most recently, she hit a walk off two-run homer against her former team to give Clemson the 3-2 win. The homer brings her career total to 58.
  • Guimbarda hit four home runs against North Carolina. She is currently ranked fifth among action players in the NCAA for most home runs in her career.
  • She hit 24 homers while at Furman and has 34 at Clemson.
  • Guimbarda is the 196th player in NCAA Division I history to hit 50 homers during her collegiate career.

MILLIE ROCKED

  • Sophomore left-handed pitcher Millie Thompson has come into her own in her second season with the program.
  • She maintains a 1.26 ERA through 15 appearances and 61 innings pitched. She has 3 solo shutouts, the first three of her career, and has combined for five.
  • She is second on the team with eight wins and has struck out 65 batters while only allowing 44 hits and giving up only nine walks limiting opponents to a .196 average.
  • Thompson started the season throwing a combined no-hitter with teammate Regan Spencer.
  • She followed that performance with her first solo career no-no against Furman in the second game of the doubleheader. She was one error away from throwing a perfect game that was committed during the first batter of the game.
  • Other notable performances from Thompson include:
    • A 5.0 IP run-rule victory over No. 13 Duke with eight strikeouts and no walks
    • A nine-strikeout performance vs. Louisville
    • A career-high 11 strikeouts in shutout victory over Illinois.
