Freire/Liu Down No. 6 Thompson/Jordan to Advance in ITA Regional Doubles Tournament

Durham, N.C. – Senior Gabriel Diaz Freire and junior Yizhou Liu upset sixth seeded Connor Thompson/Phillip Jordan of South Carolina, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the elite eight at the ITA Carolina Regional. The duo will compete against No. 3 pair Mac Kinger/Simon Soendergaard of North Carolina tomorrow. 

In addition, Diaz Freire competed in the singles draw on Sunday morning and dropped a three-set decision to sixth-seeded Raphael Lambling of South Carolina. The senior took the first set, 6-3, against the Palmetto-series foe but dropped the next two, 6-3, 6-2.

The Tigers will resume doubles action tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
