Tyler, Texas – Former Tigers Jessy Rompies ‘15 and Beatrice Gumulya ‘15 were crowned doubles champions at the ITF World Tennis Tour W80 in Tyler after defeating Chieh-Yu Hsu/Marcela Zacarias, 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Gumulya and Rompies spent four and two years at Clemson, respectively, and began competing as a doubles pair in the 2013-14 season. The duo finished their first season ranked No. 23 in the nation by the ITA. In their senior campaign, Gumulya and Rompies were ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation and tallied a team-best record of 15-5. The pair earned individual doubles bids to the NCAA tournament in back-to-back seasons in 2014 and 2015 and made it to the round of 16 on both occasions. In 2015, the Gumulya and Rompies made a run to the quarterfinal match before falling to Stanford’s Doyle/Tsay.

During her four-year tenure, Gumulya twice posted the best doubles records on the team in 2013 (23-6) and 2015 (15-5). Additionally, Rompies holds the fifth most doubles wins in a single season (32) and the seventh highest winning percentage (.770) by any Tiger to date.
