CLEMSON, S.C. – Director of Track & Field, Mark Elliott has announced the addition of Tevin Hester as he will serve as the new Assistant Coach for Short Sprints. A previous volunteer coach for the Tigers and a four-year sprinter at Clemson, Hester returns after coaching for three seasons at the University of Pittsburgh.
“Clemson Track and Field welcome’s home Coach Tevin Hester. He will bring professionalism and experience to our student athletes, and is a great addition to our program,” Elliott said.
Hester will be coaching the 60 meter, 100 meter and the 200 meter. The former Tiger will also specialize in relays as he will coach the 4×100 meter and the 4×400 meter.
At Pittsburgh, Hester helped lead multiple athletes to success both in season and in the ACC and NCAA Championships.
“It’s great to be back at the very place it all started for me. Returning to my alma mater as a coach is like stepping onto hallowed ground, where the memories of my own journey blend with the excitement of guiding the next generation towards their own greatness,” Hester said,
While volunteering at Clemson, Hester was a key member of the sprints staff that saw nine student-athletes earn Second Team All-American honors and 10 student-athletes earn First Team All-ACC honors. Hester helped the Clemson 4x400m relay squad earn the ACC title in 2019 while also seeing Rebekah Smith collect the Penn Relays 100m Championship of America title in 2018 under his guidance.
In total, Hester helped coach a pair of NCAA qualifiers in Rebekah Smith (60m) and Marcus Parker (200m) while also coaching two USA U23 NACAC Gold Medalists and one USA U23 NACAC Silver Medalist.
As a student-athlete at Clemson, Hester was a seven-time ACC Champion and nine-time First Team All-American. Hester currently holds the ACC meet record in the Outdoor 200 meter dash at 20.13. Hester still holds the all conditions fastest time in Clemson history in the 100 meter dash at 9.87 (2.1 wind).
Hester earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Clemson University in 2016.
