Former Tiger Jessy Rompies Reaches Final of 125K in China

CLEMSON, S.C. – Jessy Rompies, a former All-American for Clemson in 2015, reached the doubles final of a WTA $125,000 Series event in China over the weekend. Rompies and her partner, Nicha Lertpitaksinchai of Thailand, went 3-1 including a win over the top-seeded team in the draw, at the Dalian 125K Series.

Rompies, who is from Jakarta, Indonesia, and Lertpitaksinchai were unseeded entering the tournament, and won their first round, quarterfinal and semifinal matches all in straight sets, before falling to Ya-Hsuan Lee and Kotomi Takahata in the title match. In the quarterfinals, the duo upset the number-one-seeded team in the doubles draw, Nicole Melichar and Alicja Rosolska.

Rompies played for the Tigers in 2014 and 2015, earning All-America honors in doubles and Second-Team All-ACC honors as a senior in 2015. She and doubles partner Beatrice Gumulya won the doubles title at the prestigious ITA All-American in Pacific Palisades, Calif. in the fall of 2014 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship in 2015. Rompies finished the 2014-15 season with 32 individual doubles wins, a figure which ranks fifth in Clemson history in single season individual doubles victories.
