Janet Knight-Linder, a Lady Tiger standout from 1982-86, has been annouced as the Clemson honoree for the 2006 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament Legends. The ACC selected 12 former standout players – one from each ACC school – that will be honored during the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament at the inaugural ACC Legends Brunch, presented by Food Lion and Pepsi. The event will be held on Saturday, Mar. 4 at the Greensboro Coliseum. Later that day, the Legends will be introduced to the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament crowd at halftime of the semifinal games.
Knight-Linder was a first-team All-ACC selection and earned Fast Break All-America third-team honors after the 1984-85 season. She is the third all-time leading scorer in Lady Tiger history and holds the second-highest career free-throw percentage with a .812 mark. Knight was a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and was honored in 1985 as the Rupert Fike Award Recipient for Outstanding Athlete at Clemson. Knight was inducted into the Clemson University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.
The former Lady Tiger authored a children’s book entitled Basketball Fever in 2002. She is married to Buddy Linder and the couple has three children. Knight-Linder currently serves as a guidance counselor at Broome High School in Spartanburg, SC.
Along with Knight-Linder, this year’s class includes 12 former players that represent four decades of ACC Women’s Basketball competitors. Below is a complete list of this year’s legends.
