PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The Clemson Tigers officially wrapped up a successful weekend at Penn Relays as they completed the final day of events at Franklin Field. Shining bright on the day was Marie Forbes, as she wrote her name in the history books as she earned her second first-place title of the meet in the women’s discus throw.
With a throw of 54.15, Forbes was crowned the women’s discus champion after also winning the women’s hammer throw championship on Thursday with a throw of 63.49. Forbes is officially the first woman since at least 2000 to win the “College Women’s Hammer Throw Championship” and “College Women’s Discus Throw Championship” during the same year.
Multiple Tigers were runner-up’s in their events as Oneka Wilson tabbed a second-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.17 which is her second fastest time this season. Courtney Lawrence recorded a second-place finish in the men’s shot put as he threw 18.92. In the men’s javelin, Ethan Cocco was named runner-up as he tabbed a second-place finish with a mark of 69.99.
Also on the women’s side, Shantae Foreman recorded a third-place finish in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 12.81.
After three tough days of competition, the Tigers will go home with one Penn Relays wheel from the women’s sprint medley relay and three individual champions in Marie Forbes (hammer throw, discus) and Caroline Johnston (long jump).
Up next, the Tigers will prepare for the ACC Outdoor Championships in Atlanta, Ga. as competition is set to begin Thursday, May 9 and wrap up on Saturday, May 11.
