Forbes, Rhoden and Stona Named ACC Performers of the Week

CLEMSON, S.C. – Three Tigers were recognized as ACC Performers of the Week for their impressive marks set at this past weekend’s Orange & Purple Elite Meet, the conference announced Tuesday. Tarees Rhoden was honored as the men’s track performer of the week, while Marie Forbes was named the women’s field performer of the week. Rojé Stona was co-field performer of the week along with Georgia Tech’s Cameron O’Neal.

In his first meet as a Tiger, Rhoden shot himself up to the top of Clemson’s all-time 600 leaderboard with an extremely impressive 1:17.81. He led the race from beginning to end and finished approximately 50 meters ahead of his closest competition en route to the fourth-best 600 meter time in the nation this season.

“For Tarees, The 600 is a good indicator of where he should be in his primary event, the 800, and that’s a really good start for him” raved Program Director Mark Elliott.

Forbes earned her Performer of the Week honors by launching a 18.91 meter weight throw, leaving her just .09 meters short of her December performance that ranked fifth on Clemson’s all-time top-10. Elliott stated, “Marie is a great addition to our team and has had a great start to our season. She’s a multi field person and has had a great start there.” Forbes ranked 13th nationally in the weight throw.

Stona’s winning shot put throw of 18.31 meters at the Orange and Purple Elite is the 14th best nationally thus far. Stona’s throw was also a personal best and ranks third all-time on Clemson’s indoor charts. “Roje is a consummate competitor,” said Elliott. “He is a senior on our team and has had a great start to his season.

The Tigers return to the track on Friday for the Clemson Invitational that features 11 total teams. For all the most up-to-date information regarding Clemson Track & Field, visit ClemsonTigers.com and follow @ClemsonTrackXC on Twitter and Instagram.
