Clemson’s team rosters continue to be impacted by the lingering and consequential effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-related anomalies, student-athletes’ unique decisions, and the NCAA’s actions to extend student-athlete eligibility due to COVID continued to impact certain teams’ roster sizes. In addition, the women’s rowing team elected to maintain a smaller roster as it realized the benefits of that approach last year, as its equivalent funding was allocated among fewer student-athletes. The continuing variations in Clemson’s student-athlete participation counts were justifiably caused by the unique nature of the impact that the worldwide pandemic has continued to have on Clemson’s teams and the NCAA as well as student-athletes’ individual choices.
Women’s participation opportunities will be supplemented in 2022-23 and 2023-24 as the new NCAA lacrosse and gymnastics teams recruit top talent to the lakefront women’s sports development. Lacrosse will begin its inaugural season in 2022-23 with a roster of approximately 28 student-athletes, including 19 of the top 22 transfers in the country.
