Clemson guard Edward Scott was named first-team All-ACC by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association and the Associated Press on Monday. He is the first Clemson point guard in 43 years to be named first-team All-ACC. Overall, Scott is just the 10th player in Clemson history to earn first-team honors, the first since Will Solomon in 1999-00. Scott is just the second Clemson selection in the last 13 years.
Scott led Clemson in scoring (18.0) and assists (5.6) this year and hopes to enhance those numbers in the upcoming ACC Tournament. He has 485 points, 98 rebounds and 151 assists. When he gets two more rebounds and 15 more points he will become the first player in Clemson history to record 500 points, 150 assists and 100 rebounds in a season.
Scott was a two-time selection as ACC Player of the Week Feb. 15-22, the first player in Clemson history to be selected in consecutive weeks. He was named National Player of the Week by Dick Vitale and Andy Katz of ESPN for his 61-points in Clemson wins over Virginia and Florida State.
The native of Eastover, SC is the ironman of the ACC, leading the conference in minutes per game at 38.4. He played the complete game 12 times this year, twice as many as any other ACC player. Scott enters the ACC Tournament with 1215 points, 427 rebounds and 585 career assists. He is one of just nine players in ACC history to record at least 1000 points, 400 rebounds and 500 assists in a career.
“This is a well deserved honor for Edward Scott,” said Clemson Head Coach Larry Shyatt. ‘He has meant so much to our program on the floor, but he has also meant so much as a team leader. He has shown improvement every year. We are very proud of his accomplishments and the way he has represented Clemson University.”

Quotes on Edward Scott “Edward Scott distributes the basketball. He has been called upon to do more scoring this year and he has responded to challenges in a positive way. Clemson is improved under Larry Shyatt and Scott hasn’t received as much national publicity as he has deserved. He is on my first-team All-ACC team.— Dick Vitale, ESPN
“If I were starting a team in this league I would pick Edward Scott as my point guard. He has what it takes to run an offense in this league and is a terrific leader. Against Cincinnati this year he made Bob Huggins’s team back down. You rarely see that done against Cincinnati.”— Billy Packer, CBS Sports
“Edward Scott is a first-team All-ACC player. When you look at what he has done in February, he has really had an impact on Clemson’s recent victories over North Carolina, Virginia and Florida State. He has put up some great numbers against quality competition.” — Digger Phelps, ESPN
“We wanted to take Clemson out of their offense by making Scott take tough shots. We accomplished that, but he still scored 20 points and Clemson won the game,” –Cincinnati Assistant Coach Dan Peters
“He is one of the best guards we will play. We understand how valuable he is to their team. He is the perfect example of a college basketball player. He came in and graduated to a far higher level each year. I really respect him.” — South Carolina Head Coach Dave Odom
“He is one of my favorite players in the the ACC. He’s a no nonsense, blue-collar kind of guy. It took a five-man commitment to contain him,” — Wake Forest Head Coach Skip Prosser
“This year, I would definitely say he’s among the top 10 point guards in the nation. It depends on what a team needs in the NBA, but he will get a shot at the next level.” — Phil Ford, Fox SportsNet
