Duke Defeats Tiger Volleyball Team, 3-0

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 30-24) decision to Duke Sunday afternoon at Jervey Gym. The Tigers fall to 4-6 on the season and 0-3 in the ACC, while the Blue Devils collected their 10th consecutive win, improving to 10-0 and 2-0 in the league.

Duke outhit the Tigers .250 to .151 and recorded 56 kills compared to the Tigers’ 37. The Blue Devils tallied five blocks for the match, while Clemson had three team blocks (two solo). Duke posted 59 defensive saves and the Tigers had 50 digs on the night.

Clemson was led by Jodi Steffes who tallied 12 kills with 10 digs, while Kiki Dallao added nine kills with 10 digs. Jessi Betcher recorded 32 assists with nine digs and one service ace while Leslie Finn served up three aces. Marija Zoric and Lori Ashton had one solo block each.

Duke’s Ashley Harris led all hitters with 18 kills, while Krista Dill added 12 kills. Dorrette Burwell was the only other Blue Devil in double-figure kills with 10. Jill Sonne led the Duke defenders with 14 digs, and also tallied five service aces with three block assists. Arielle Linderman handed out a team-best 49 assists with nine digs.

The Tigers (4-6, 0-3) will travel to Atlanta to play Georgia Tech next Friday night, Sept. 28. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
