Doc Redman Named Freshman All-American

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson freshman Doc Redman has been named a first-team Freshman All-American by the College Golf Coaches Association of America.   Redman was joined on the team by Norman Xiong of Oregon, John Augenstein of Vanderbilt, Cooper Dossey of Baylor, and Viktor Hovland of Oklahoma State.

Redman just completed a record setting season for the Tigers as he posted a 70.77 stroke average for 39 rounds in 13 tournaments. That is the best ever by a Clemson freshman and second to any Clemson player behind the 70.33 posted by D.J. Trahan in 2001-02 when he was named National Player of the Year.

Redman had eight top 10 finishes, tied for fourth in school history and also most by a Clemson freshman. He won two tournaments in the fall, the Jackrabbit and the Ka’anapali Classic. He won with a 13-under par 203 at the Jackrabbit, then set the 54-hole Clemson record with a 198, 15-under par, at the Ka’anapali Classic.

The native of Raleigh, NC had a streak of six straight top seven finishes at one point. He finished ninth at the NCAA Regional with a 216 score. He had eight total top 10 finishes, and had an 11th place at the Carpet Classic in his first college event.

Nationally, Redman was eighth in the nation in eagles (8), 10th in birdies (154) , 15th in scoring average vs. par (-0.77), sixth in subpar strokes per hole (4.13) and 20th in par four scoring average (4.02).

Earlier, Redman was named the ACC Freshman of the Year, was named to the All-ACC team and the All-Region team by the College Golf Coaches Association.
