Athens, Ga. – Following the second day of play at the Southern Intercollegiate Championship on Saturday, Gabriel Diaz Freire earned his third singles victory of the tournament to advance to the White Singles Draw title match. The senior will take on Pablo Schelcher of Georgia Tech at 9:30 am on Sunday.
Diaz Freire, in his first full season with the Tigers after transferring to the program in 2018, pulled out a pair of straight-set victories over Georgia Tech’s Keshav Chopra and Texas’ Jacob Bullard to advance to the championship round. With the wins, Diaz Freire improves to 3-0 in singles on the season.
Teodor Giusca also notched a victory for the Tigers after Britton Johnston of Georgia was forced to retire in the second set of the White Singles Draw consolation match.
All four of Clemson’s athletes will wrap up play tomorrow beginning at 9:30 am.
