Durham, N.C. – Gabriel Diaz Freire has advanced to the round of 16 following day two of action at the ITA Carolina Regional. The senior notched his third victory of the tournament after defeating Duke’s Samuel Rubell, 6-3, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon. Diaz Freire will face a true test tomorrow when he takes on sixth-seeded Raphael Lambling of South Carolina in the round of 16.
Clemson earned another singles win as Mike Agee snagged a, 7-6 (1), 6-1, victory over Alex Pavkovich of Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore, who is playing in the consolation bracket, will conclude singles play tomorrow.
Doubles action also began on Saturday morning with all six Tigers taking the court. Diaz Freire/Liu earned a pair of victories to advance to the third round of the doubles main draw. The duo beat Campbell’s Ondrej Labik/Bastien Huon, 8-6, and Karl Mosterd/Noah Borges, 8-2. Additionally, Giusca/Kelaidis picked up an 8-6 opening round victory over Matthew Rose/Yash Parikh of Davidson before falling to Melios Efstathiou/Morgan Dill, 8-3, in the second round.
Tournament action continues tomorrow as both singles and double play are set to resume beginning at 9 am.
