DeSpain/Marti Earn Ranked Win as Tigers Drop Decision to No. 46 Notre Dame

South Bend, Ind. — Laura Marti and Ali DeSpain picked up the first ranked win as a pair as the Tigers (7-14, 1-10 ACC) fell to No. 46 Notre Dame (11-11, 5-8 ACC), 4-0, on Friday.

DeSpain and Marti defeated the No. 15 ranked pair of Ally Bojczuk and Julia Lilien 6-4 on Court 2 for their first ranked win, but Cristina Mayorova and Sophia Hatton lost a tiebreaker on Court 1 to give the Irish the doubles point. 

The Fighting Irish quickly closed out the match in singles play with three victories on courts 1, 3, and 5. Laura Marti won her first set 7-5 on Line 6, but her match was abandoned while she had a 4-3 advantage in the second set.

Of Note:

  • Laura Marti and Ali DeSpain earned their first ranked win as a pair, and advanced to 3-2 overall in doubles play
  • The victory comes in the first match the pair was positioned on a court higher than Line 3
  • The Tigers fall to 8-11 all-time against Notre Dame
