Cross Country Squads Finish In Top 10 At NCAA Southeast Region

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Clemson men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the NCAA Southeast Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, SC. The Tiger men’s team placed eighth with 231 points, and the women’s team was ninth with 305 points.

NC State won the men’s meet with 40 points, and William and Mary was second with 69 points. UNC Charlotte won the women’s meet with 66 points, followed by NC State with 79 points. All four teams qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Ryan Demers (Shapleigh, ME) led the men’s team with a 22nd place finish in 31:03 on the 10K course. Sophomore Jason Meany (Liverpool, NY) placed 47th with a time of 31:51, and sophomore B.J. Dillard (Simpsonville, SC) and senior Steve Alexander (Pickens, SC) were 51st (31:56) and 52nd (31:57), respectively.

Freshman Scott Shaw (East Syracuse, NY) placed 59th with a time of 32:05, and freshman Mike Connelly (Winchester, VA) placed 118th with a time of 34:00. Sophomore David Abel (Franklin, NC) rounded out the Clemson runners with a time of 34:50 to finish 133rd.

Three seniors led the Clemson women’s team on the 5K course. Beth Ahern (Toledo, OH) placed 37th with a time of 18:28, and Erika van Reenen (Norcoss, GA) was 47th with a time of 18:39. Anne Stowell (Charlotte, NC) finished 61st at 18:55. Junior Jennifer Meador (Mechanicsville, VA) placed 69th, finishing the course in 19:03, and junior Shannon Schoppman (East Patchogue, NY) was 91st with a time of 19:20.

The Southeast Region Meet concluded the season for both teams.
