CLEMSON, S.C. — Three Clemson athletes took home ACC Performer of the Week honors for their efforts at the Clemson Opener on Friday, Dec. 2. Daniel Cope (Men’s Field), Marie Forbes (Women’s Field) and Wanya McCoy (Men’s Track) were all recognized for their exceptional performances, the conference announced on Tuesday.
McCoy dazzled in the season’s first competition, breaking a school and facility record in the 300 meters with his incredible time of 32.53 seconds. That mark is good for third-best in NCAA history. He also took first place in the 60 meters at the event after posting a qualifying time of 6.69, which currently ranks fourth nationally.
Last season’s ACC Freshman of the Year, Cope won the weight throw competition at the Clemson Opener with a 21.02-meter throw (68-11.75). The Tiger All-American’s mark currently leads the nation, one foot ahead of the next closest competitor.
Forbes made it a No. 1 sweep for Clemson weight throw competitors in this week’s national rankings. Like Cope, Forbes leads the country following her throw of 20.51 meters (67-3.5). Forbes placed nearly 21 feet ahead of the second-place competitor at the Clemson Opener and is more than three feet ahead of the next-closest thrower on the current national chart.
The Tigers will return to action at the start of the new year with the Clemson Invitational, set to take place on January 13-14. For all the most up-to-date information regarding Clemson track and field, visit ClemsonTigers.com and follow @ClemsonTrackXC on Twitter and Instagram.
