CLEMSON, SC – The 13th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team earned a bid to the 2014 ITA National Indoor Championships with a 4-0 win over No. 32 Tennessee on Sunday at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center. The Tigers, who defeated No. 56 Fresno State yesterday in the first round, improve to 4-0 on the young season, and will travel to Charlottesville, VA on Feb. 7-10 as one of the Final 16 teams alive in the national tournament.  Clemson claimed flights one and three doubles, and won on courts one, three, and four singles to advance for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.  “I’m very proud of this team, their dedication to not only tennis, but also the community really has shown me that they are in this together,” said Head Coach Nancy Harris. “We did a great job today. Our one-through-four got it done so that our five and six did not have to stress so much. It is nice when you have everyone putting in all that they have to help us succeed and get a good win like today.” Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies continued their hot play, improving to 10-1 on the year as a duo, and have still dropped just three total games in four matches as a pair. Joana Eidukonyte and Romy Koelzer clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court five.  In singles, Clemson’s top four again asserted themselves, as Yana Koroleva, Beatrice Gumulya, and Tristen Dewar dropped two combined games en route to first-set victories. Koroleva won her match, 6-1, 6-3 over No. 53 Eve Repic, and Gumulya won her 51st career match, a 6-0, 6-3 win on court three. Dewar claimed her second set, topping Tiffany Tavares, 6-1, 6-2, to clinch her third of four matches for the Tigers this season.  Clemson will play next at Georgia at noon on Feb. 1 in their final match before heading to Charlottesville for the Round of 16.  Tennis Match Results Tennessee vs Clemson Jan 26, 2014 at Clemson, SC (Clemson Indoor Tennis Center) #13 Clemson 4, #32 Tennessee 0 Singles competition 1. #74 Yana Koroleva (CU) def. #53 Eve Repic (TN-W) 6-1, 6-3 2. #51 Romy Koelzer (CU) vs. #99 Joanna Henderson (TN-W) 4-6, 5-4, unfinished 3. #44 Beatrice Gumulya (CU) def.
