Clemson improves to 8-3 on the season overall, while the 47th-ranked Hokies are now 7-3, and 0-1 in league play.  Clemson charged out of the gate, earning the doubles point handily, and the first five singles decisions of the day. The Tigers showed few ill-effects from Friday’s loss at home to Harvard in bouncing back to win their fourth match in the last five outings, all against top-50 competition.  The Tigers continued their hot streak in doubles play, winning two sets and leading the last. Yana Koroleva and Beatrice Gumulya, the 55th-ranked duo in the nation, won on court one by a convincing score of 8-1. Ani Miao and Jessy Rompies followed suit on court three. The duo also won their match 8-1 and improve to 5-1 together on the season. Tristen Dewar and Romy Koelzer led 7-2, but the match was left unfinished. The Tigers have claimed the doubles point in 10 of 11 matches this season.  Jessy Rompies, playing on court six, opened singles play with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sansitha Nandakumar. Tristen Dewar won her match, despite falling in the first set. She fought back to win the second set 6-2 and the tiebreaker 10-2. For both Rompies and Dewar, their victories put them on a four match winning streak, currently a team high. At the first flight, Yana Koroleva improved to 7-3 in dual match play, defeating 90th-ranked Francesca Fusinato 7-5, 6-3. For Koroleva,  Ani Miao and Romy Koelzer also won in straight sets. Miao had a 6-2, 6-1 victory while Koelzer, ranked 54th in the nation, won easily 6-3, 6-3. Each rebounded nicely from Friday’s match against Harvard when both lost.  The only loss on the day came in the second flight. For the second straight match, Beatrice Gumulya dropped a three-set heartbreaker. After losing the first set, Gumulya battled back to win the second 6-2, forcing the decisive third set. This was the closest of the three, and at one point it was deadlocked at 5-5 but Illinca Stoica of Virginia Tech won the final two games to win 7-5.  Clemson returns to action this weekend with a pair of home matches. On Friday, the Tigers host North Carolina State at 2:30 pm. Sunday, Clemson will tangle with Wake Forest at 12 pm.
