CLEMSON, S.C. – Carmina Giraldo, Catherine Galvin and Laurence Jayet won in singles and doubles play to lead Clemson to a 6-3 women’s tennis victory over 27th ranked Miami (FL) in a match that ended late Friday evening. The contest was moved to Clemson’s indoor facility due to the weather. Clemson improved to 3-1 with the victory.
Giraldo, Clemson’s number-one player, defeated Alanna Broderick 6-3, 6-4 at the number-one singles position, while Galvin stopped Katia Bogomeleva 6-0, 6-0 at number-two singles. Jayet won at number-five singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Igna DeVilliers. Clemson’s fourth point in singles came from Renata Brito, who won at #6 singles over Lauren Scaglione, 6-3, 6-2.
Miami won the only three-set match of the singles competition when Marcy Hora defated Anna Savitskaya of Clemson, 6-1, 1-6, 7-5.
Clemson won two of the three doubles matches. Giraldo and Savitskaya combined to gain victory over DeVilliers and Hora, 8-3. Clemson’s sixth point came at number-two when Galvin and Jayet defeated Bogomeleva, 9-8.
