CARY, N.C. – One day after earning the program’s first conference tournament win in four years, the Clemson men’s tennis team’s 2019 campaign came to an end, with a 4-0 loss to No. 5-seeded and 29th-ranked Miami in the second round of the ACC Championships on Thursday in Cary, N.C.
The doubles point went to the Hurricanes, with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, in that order. Miami claimed singles wins on Court 6, Court 1 and Court 4 to clinch the match. When play was abandoned, the remaining three singles matches were very close.
Yizhou Liu lost the first set 7-6, and was leading the second 4-1 at No. 2, while Teodor Giusca was in the same situation, leading 3-2 in the second set at No. 3. After splitting the first two sets at No. 5 singles, Jacob Jahn was up 1-0 to start the third set.
With the loss, the Tigers conclude the 2019 season with a 10-17 record, while Miami improved to 17-9 and advanced to Friday’s ACC Quarterfinals with the victory.
