Clemson’s Rick Hill Wins Orange & Purple Decathlon And Qualifies For National Championships

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson men’s track and field junior Rick Hill (Chapel Hill, NC) won the Orange & Purple Decathlon on Saturday at the Rock Norman Track Complex. Hill scored a lifetime-best 7,327 points to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held on June 11-14 in Sacramento, CA. His point total places him 14th in the nation, and moves him into fourth on Clemson’s all-time list. The 7,327 point total also set a Rock Norman track record. Hill had previously provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships at the ACC Championships, where he won the event with 7,068 points.

Teammate Brent Hobbs, a junior from Stony Point, NY, finished third in the decathlon with 6,514 points. He was edged by Georgia Tech’s Greg McCormick, who tallied 6,516 points. Coastal Carolina’s Ray Felton placed fourth with 6,446 points, James Drake was fifth with 5,676 points and Mike Piscetelli from Wake Forest finished sixth with 5,272 points.

The Clemson men’s track and field team will return to action next weekend at the Reebok Invitational in Atlanta, GA.
