CLEMSON, SC – Clemson Women’s Basketball player, Erin Batth was selected in the fourth round by the Cleveland Rockers in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) draft Friday afternoon.
She was the 59th pick overall, the 11th selection in the fourth round. She is the first ever Lady Tiger drafted by the WNBA.
Batth was a Second-Team Defensive All-American by the Women’s basketball Journal, for the last two years. She was also a member of the ACC’s All-Defensive Team for the last two seasons. Batth was named Second-Team All-ACC her senior year. In the 2000-01 season, she led the Lady Tigers in rebounding with an 8.7 rpg. average and had 11 double-doubles. She was second on the team in scoring with a 12.1 ppg. average and third on the team in steals with 51 while averaging 27.8 minutes per game.
Batth completed her career as the 20th All-Time leading scorer in Clemson History with 972 points and as Clemson’s eighth all-time leading rebounder with 722 boards. She also finished her career as Clemson’s fifth all-time leading shot blocker with 111 blocked shots.
During her senior season, she averaged 10.9 ppg. vs. the ACC and averaged 9.1 rpg. vs. the conference. Batth scored a career-high 22 points vs. Furman on 12-6-00 and had a season-high 14 rebounds vs. North Carolina on 2-8-01. This past season, she was 17th in the ACC in scoring with a 12.1 ppg. mark. and fourth in the ACC in rebounding with an 8.7 rpg. figure. Batth was also third in the league for most offensive rebounds (3.40) and was named the team’s co-Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row Cleveland finished second in the Eastern Division last year. The Rockers lost to New York in the conference finals.
“I am very happy to be drafted in the WNBA,” said Batth. “Words don’t describe how happy I am. I have a lot of work to do. I feel that Clemson and the coaching staff have prepared me for the next level.”
