Clemson Wraps Up Successful Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Clemson track and field program had a fruitful weekend at the 127th Penn Relays, as the event concluded on Saturday. Program Director Mark Elliott was named an honorary referee in recognition of his many years of attendance and service to the Penn Relays. This was Clemson’s final competition before the 2023 ACC Championship Meet hosted by NC State from May 11-13.

FULL RESULTS

SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Marie Forbes finished third in the discus throw with a mark of 47.05 meters.
  • The men’s 4×100 meter relay of Dashinelle Dyer, Guinove Joanus, Cameron Rose and Wanya McCoy finished third with a time of 39.71.
  • The women’s 4×800 meter relay of Jessica McLean, Kayan Green, Leah Disher and Brynne Sumner finished seventh with a time of 8:38.48.
  • Danielle Sloley finished eighth in the shot put with a 15.84 meter mark.
  • The women’s 4×400 meter relay of KK Gadson, Lashanna Graham, Ockera Myrie and Antoinette Van der Merwe finished fifth with a time of 3:34.28.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The men’s sprint medley relay of Cameron Rose, Wanya McCoy, Aman Thornton and Tarees Rhoden won the event to take home a fabled Penn Relays wagon wheel with a time of 3:23.12. The win makes this the second consecutive year in which Clemson has won a wagon wheel, as the Tigers took home the 4×200 meter relay last season.
  • The women’s sprint medley relay finished second with a time of 3:51.98.
  • Ethan Cocco won the men’s javelin throw with a toss of 61.22 meters.
  • John Drwal’s javelin throw of 57.29 meters was sixth-best.
  • The men’s DMR of Corentin Serbource, Braden Balekly, Victor Ndiwa and Theron Bradford finished second with a time of 9:42.62.
  • The women’s 4×100 meter relay of Antoinette Van der Merwe, Shantae Foreman, Oneka Wilson and Ockera Myrie qualified for the finals with a time of 45.41. They will compete for the championship of the event on Saturday at 1:10 p.m.
  • The men’s 4×100 meter relay of Dashinelle Dyer, Guinove Joanus, Cameron Rose and Wanya McCoy ran a 40.40 to qualify for finals. They will compete for the championship at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.
  • The men’s 4×200 meter relay of Guinove Joanus, D’Andre Anderson, Cameron Rose and Wanya McCoy finished second with a time of 1:24.32. The Tigers won this event last season with a time of
  • The women’s 4×400 meter relay of Lashanna Graham, Kayan Green, Jessica McLean and KK Gadson qualified for finals with a time of 3:44.26. They will compete for the title at 3:29 p.m on Saturday.
  • The men’s 4×400 meter relay of Tarees Rhoden, Wanya McCoy, Daniel Kidd and Aman Thornton advanced to finals with a time of 3:12.38. They’ll compete for the championship in the event at 3:35 p.m. on Saturday.

THURSDAY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Brynne Sumner set a massive PR in the 1500 meter run, finishing the race in 4:20.96. That time is sixth-best in Clemson history and puts Sumner on her second top-10 list of the season. She holds the No. 7 spot in the 800 meter run.
  • Maddie Dinneen’ 10:41.77 time in the 3000 meter steeplechase puts her at No. 4 in school history. It is a huge improvement from her previous personal best of 10:49.43.
  • Marie Forbes finished fourth in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 62.34 meters.
  • Lashanna Graham finished second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.62, just .08 seconds off her personal best.
  • Sawyer Dagan’s 14:27.17 in the 5k was a personal best.
