Clemson Wraps Up Regular Season With 5-2 Win Over Boston College

CLEMSON, SC – Senior Carol Salge, playing in the final regular season match of her career, led the Tiger women’s tennis team to a 5-2 victory against Boston College on Sunday. The match concluded Clemson’s ACC regular season, as the conference tournament will begin on Thursday in Altamonte Springs, FL.

The Tigers, ranked #21 in the latest poll, are now 12-9 overall and 8-3 in ACC play. The Eagles fell to 9-11 on the year with a 1-10 conference record.

Salge defeated Lana Krasnopolsky at the top singles position, dropping just two games in the match. The win extended her singles winning streak to 10 straight, as she finished the year with a 10-1 mark against league opponents.

The native of San Roque, Brazil also teamed with Laurianne Henry to post an 8-4 win over Krasnopolsky and Gia Nafarrete at the no. 3 doubles position.

Ina Hadziselimovic and Alexandra Luc quickly defeated Alina Sullivan and Katharine Attwell, 8-1, at no. 2 doubles for Clemson’s first win of the afternoon. Estefania Balda and Federica van Adrichem then improved to 10-5 on the year, winning by an 8-3 margin over Lauren Cash and Dasha Cherkasov at the no. 1 position.

In singles play, Luc earned a quick victory at no. 5, defeating Sullivan by a 6-3, 6-2 margin. Henry then put the Tigers ahead, 3-0, with a win at the fourth position over Attwell (6-1, 6-2). Moments after Salge clinched the victory for Clemson, Hadziselimovic posted her 19th win of the year.

The sophomore from Sarajevo, Bosnia gave up the first four games of the first set to Cherkasov, but dropped just two games afterwards for the 6-4, 6-2 victory. Senior Kathryn Gerber then fell to Nafarrete at no. 6 (6-3, 6-2) for the Eagles’ first point of the day.

Cash of Boston College won a third-set super tiebreak to edge Van Adrichem at the third position. Van Adrichem won the first set, 6-4, before falling in the second, 7-5, and 10-7 in the tie-break.
