CLEMSON, SC – The 22nd-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team upset #14 South Alabama by a score of 6-1 late Saturday evening in Clemson. The Tigers avenged an early-season loss to the Jaguars, who defeated Clemson by a score of 4-3 on Feb. 2 in Mobile, AL. With the win, Clemson improves to 8-2, while South Alabama falls to 8-2.
In doubles action, the Tigers’ 27th-ranked duo of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet defeated South Alabama’s Katarina Palenikova and Viktoria Stoklasova by a score of 8-3 at flight one. Clemson’s Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie won an 8-2 decision over Andrea Kurekova and Dominika Nemcovicova at number two doubles. At flight three, Anna Dolinska and Ana Stiglic of Clemson fell to Marlieke Jager and Klara Jarova, 8-5.
In singles play, #28 Coin won a 6-0, 6-3 decision over 34th-ranked Stoklasova at flight one. The Tigers’ Lacelarie defeated Kurekova by a score of 6-0, 6-1 at number two singles, while Alvarez won a 7-5, 6-4 decision over Nemcovicova at flight three. At four singles, Clemson’s Stiglic fell in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4), to Jager. Jayet was victorious over Palenikova, 7-5, 7-5, at five singles, while the Tigers’ Ioana Paun won a 7-5, 6-4 decision over Jarova at flight six.
The Tigers will travel to Raleigh, NC on Friday, Mar. 7 to take on N.C. State in their first conference match of the season. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
