Clemson Women’s Tennis Team Falls To South Alabama Sunday

MOBILE, AL – The 31st-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team fell to #27 South Alabama on Sunday afternoon in Mobile. The Tigers are now 1-1 on the season, while the Jaguars improve to 3-1 overall.

In doubles play, Clemson’s Daniela Alvarez and Julie Coin dropped an 8-2 decision to the Jaguars’ Viktoria Stoklasova and Katarina Palenikova at flight one. At two doubles, the Tigers’ Laurence Jayet and Alix Lacelarie defeated Andrea Kurekova and Dominica Nemcovicova by a score of 8-1. Anna Dolinska and Ana Stiglic of Clemson fell to Marlieke Jager and Klara Jarova 8-2, at flight three.

In singles action, 23rd-ranked Coin of Clemson defeated her South Alabama opponent, Kurekova, by a score of 6-3, 6-3 at the number one spot. The Tigers’ Alvarez dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to #47 Viktoria Stoklasova of the Jaguars at flight two. At three singles, Clemson’s Lacelarie was victorious over Nemcovicova, 7-5, 1-6 (10-6). Stiglic won a three set decision (6-0, 2-6, 6-4) for the Tigers at flight four singles over Jager of South Alabama. The Tigers’ Jayet fell to the Jaguars’ Palenikova by a score of 6-1, 6-4 at number five singles. At flight six, Clemson’s Ioana Paun lost a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Jarova.

The Tigers will return to action next weekend as they play host to UT Chattanooga on Friday, Feb. 7. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson.
