Clemson Women’s Tennis Team Falls To North Carolina In ACC Semifinals

RALEIGH, NC – The 16th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team fell to #11 North Carolina by a score of 4-0 on Saturday in the semifinals of the 2003 ACC Championship at the Millbrook Tennis Center in Raleigh, NC. The Tigers fall to 18-5 overall with the loss, while the Tar Heels improve to 17-7.

North Carolina won the doubles point with victories at flight one and three singles. At flight one, the Tigers’ 27th-ranked duo of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet lost an 8-3 decision to North Carolina’s #16 Kendall Cline and Aniela Mojzis. Clemson’s number two doubles team of Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie defeated the Tar Heels’ Lee Bairos and Marlene Mejia by a score of 8-1. At number three doubles, Anna Dolinska and Richele LeSaldo of Clemson fell to North Carolina’s Kendrick Bunn and Kate Pinchbeck by a score of 8-4.

In singles action, the Tigers’ Alvarez dropped a three-set match (6-7(2), 6-2, 6-2) to 67th-ranked Mojzis at flight three. At number four singles, Clemson’s Ioana Paun fell to Cline by a score of 6-4, 6-1, while Jayet lost a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Bairos at flight five.
