Clemson Women’s Tennis Team Downs Furman 6-1 on Saturday

CLEMSON, SC – The 19th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated #74 Furman by a score of 6-1 on Saturday afternoon in Clemson. The Tigers now hold a 33-3 all-time advantage over the Lady Paladins. With the win, Clemson improves to 11-2 overall, while Furman falls to 5-8.

Clemson swept the doubles matches to earn the team doubles point. The Tigers’ 31st-ranked duo of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet defeated Furman’s Mary Kovarik and Natalie The, 8-3 at flight one. At number two doubles, Clemson’s Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie, ranked in a tie for #58 by the ITA, won an 8-4 decision over Caroline Bentley and Shannon Moore of the Lady Paladins. The Tigers’ Anna Dolinska and Ana Stiglic were victorious over Furman’s Mary Neill Hagood and Krista Thomson at flight three doubles by a score of 8-6.

In singles action, 25th-ranked Coin defeated Kovarik, 6-1, 6-1 at flight one. At number two singles, Lacelarie won a 6-2, 5-7 (11-9) decision over Hagood. Alvarez defeated The (6-2, 6-0) at flight three, while Jayet was victorious over Bentley (6-3, 6-2) at flight four. Stiglic dropped a 3-6, 6-2 (10-6) decision to Moore at number five singles. The Tigers’ Ioana Paun won a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Furman’s Shellie Cochran at the number six slot.

The Tigers will travel to Florida during the spring break holiday to take on South Florida and Florida. Clemson will take on the Bulls on Wednesday, Mar. 19 at 2:00 p.m. in Tampa, and will travel to Gainesville to play the first-ranked Gators on Friday, Mar. 21 at 5:00 p.m.
