Clemson Women’s Tennis Team Defeats Wake Forest 6-1 On Saturday

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The 19th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated #51 Wake Forest by a score of 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Leighton Tennis Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC. The victory was the Tigers’ first against the Demon Deacons since a 7-2 win at home during the 1993 season. With the win, Clemson improves to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the ACC, while Wake Forest falls to 1-11 (0-1 ACC).

The Tigers won all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Clemson’s 27th-ranked team of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet defeated Wake Forest’s Danielle Schwartz and Aimee Smith 8-2 at number one doubles. At flight two, the Tigers’ Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie won an 8-5 decision over Karin Coetzee and Elizabeth Proctor. Anna Dolinska and Ana Stiglic of Clemson won by default at flight three doubles.

In singles action, #28 Coin defeated #98 Coetzee, 7-5, 6-2 at flight one. Lacelarie won a 6-2, 7-5(8) decision over Smith at flight two, while Alvarez was victorious over Schwartz (6-1, 6-0) at number three singles. The Tigers’ Stiglic dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Proctor at four singles. Clemson’s Jayet defeated Sandi Knight of Wake Forest in three sets (5-7, 6-0, 6-2) at flight five, while the Tigers’ Ioana Paun won by default over Wake Forest’s #65 Katie Martzolf at six singles.

The Tigers will play host to Furman on Saturday, March 15. The match will be held at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
