Clemson Women’s Tennis Team Defeats Virginia Tech, 4-3 on Friday

CLEMSON, SC – The 22nd-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated Virginia Tech by a score of 4-3 on Friday afternoon in Clemson. With the win, the Tigers improve to 7-2 overall, while the Hokies fall to 10-4.

In doubles play, Clemson’s 27th-ranked team of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet won an 8-4 decision over Virginia Tech’s Elissa Kinard and Carolyn Kramer at flight one. At two doubles, the Tigers’ team of Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie defeated the Hokies’ Ginger Lowdermilk and Kristen Stubbs, 9-7. Anna Dolinska and Ana Stiglic of Clemson were victorious over Felice Lam and Zdenka Videnova at flight three by a score of 8-4.

In singles action, #28 Coin defeated Stubbs by a score of 6-0, 6-1 at flight one. The Tigers’ Stiglic fell in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-0) to Kramer at number two singles. Alvarez won a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 decision over Kinard at flight three, while Jayet took a 6-4, 7-6(2) victory over Lowdermilk at the number four spot. Clemson’s Ioana Paun fell to Videnova at number five singles, 7-5, 4-6 (10-8), while Dolinska dropped a 6-1, 7-5 decision to Lam at flight six.

The Tigers will play host to 14th-ranked South Alabama on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The two teams met earlier this season, with the Jaguars winning a 4-3 decision in Mobile.
