MALIBU, CA – The Clemson women’s tennis team defeated the 31st-ranked Pepperdine Waves by a score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. The 13th-ranked Tigers, who are riding a seven-game winning streak, have a 12-6 record on the season, while the Waves fall to 9-5.
The Tigers won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The Tigers’ top-seeded duo of Julie Coin and Romy Farah defeated Bianca Dulgheru and Eva Dickes by a score of 8-5, then Carol Salge and Alix Lacelarie downed the Waves’ Lise Sissler and Sylvia Kosakowski by a score of 8-5 to clinch the doubles point. A 9-8 (2) win by Clemson’s Daniela Alvarez and Maria Brito at flight two completed the Tigers’ sweep of the doubles matches.
Singles victories by the Tigers’ Julie Coin, gave Clemson a 3-1 lead. Brito, playing a flight five, defeated Sissler by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Coin picked up another point for Clemson almost simultaneously, as she downed the Waves’ Natalie Braverman by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
Pepperdine responded to the challenge with victories at flights two, three and four singles to knot the match at 3-3. Clemson’s Romy Farah at flight two.
Flight six singles would provide the match tiebreaker, as Clemson’s Carol Salge and Pepperdine’s Merve Asimgil faced off in the final match of the day. Salge prevailed in the third set, 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-3, to clinch the Tigers’ win.
Clemson returns to action on Apr. 2-3 as the Tigers resume ACC play with matches at Maryland and Virginia.
