CARY, NC – The 19th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated N.C. State by a score of 5-2 on Friday evening at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, NC. With the win, the Tigers improve to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the ACC, while the Wolfpack fall to 3-4 (0-2 in the ACC).
In doubles action, Clemson’s 27th-ranked duo of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet won an 8-1 decision over the Wolfpacks’ Myrna Bawono and Carmen Torres at flight one. At number two doubles, the Tigers’ Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie were victorious over Danielle Stadelmann and Loni Worsley of N.C. State, 8-0. Anna Dolinska and Ana Stiglic of Clemson defeated Jennifer Jassawalla and Landis Strader, 8-0 at flight three doubles.
In singles play, #28 Coin defeated Bawono, 6-0, 6-1 at flight one, while Lacelarie won a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Stadelmann at number two singles. At flight three, the Tigers’ Alvarez fell to Worsley by a score of 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(10-6). Stiglic defeated Jassawalla in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 7-6(10-7)) at number four singles. Clemson’s Jayet dropped a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(10-7) decision to Torres at flight five, while the Tigers’ Ioana Paun won her match at flight six singles, defeating Strader by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
The Tigers will take on Wake Forest on Saturday in Winston-Salem, NC. The match will be held at the Leighton Tennis Stadium and is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
