Clemson Women’s Tennis Team Defeats Middle Tennessee, 6-1

CLEMSON, SC – The 21st-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated Middle Tennessee by a score of 6-1 on Friday afternoon in Clemson. The Tigers improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Blue Raiders fall to 2-8 overall.

In doubles action, Clemson’s 42nd-ranked team of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet defeated MTSU’s 29th-ranked duo of Manon Kruse and Stacy Varnell by a score of 9-7 at flight one. At number two doubles, the Tigers’ Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie won an 8-3 decision over Carien Venter and Emily Vest. Richele LeSaldo and Ana Stiglic of Clemson fell to the Blue Raiders’ Jennifer Klaschka and Laura McNamara 8-2 at flight three.

In singles play, #23 Coin dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to #56 Kruse at the number one position. At flight two singles, Lacelarie defeated Klaschka in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-1), while Stiglic won a three set decision (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) over Venter at flight three. Clemson’s Alvarez was victorious at number four singles by a score of 6-0, 6-3 over Varnell, while Jayet defeated McNamara 6-4, 2-6 (10-6) at flight five. The Tigers’ Ioana Paun won a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Vest at number six singles.

The Tigers will play host to #6 Georgia on Sunday afternoon. The match will be held at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
