CLEMSON, SC – The 11th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team posted a 7-0 sweep of the College of Charleston on Friday afternoon to open the 2009 season. The Tigers won all three doubles matches and didn’t drop a set in singles play.
Clemson junior Ani Mijacika, the nation’s #4 singles player, downed the Cougars’ Link Leskosky at the top flight, 6-1, 6-0, while 10th-ranked Estefania Balda recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win over Caroline Newman.
Rookie Ina Hadziselimovic posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at flight five against Kensey Casey, while Clemson senior Alexandra Luc defeated Keely Mulligan at number six by a 6-2, 6-4 margin.
Mijaika and Bek teamed up at the number-one doubles position to post an 8-2 win against Leskosky and Borzo. Hadziselimovic and Wong then blanked Evans and Casey at flight two, 8-0, while the Clemson tandem of Luc and Balda won 8-2 over Mulligan and Newman.
The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they take on Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond, VA. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
