Clemson Women’s Tennis Moves to 3-0 With Win Over Troy

CLEMSON, S.C. – The 14th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team moved to 3-0 on the young season, taking down Troy University by a 5-2 margin on Tuesday afternoon at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center. The Tigers swept the three doubles matches to take the point, then won four of six singles matches.

 

Ina Hadziselimovic and Laurianne Henry won 8-1 at flight two against Lauren Simpson and Emma Smith to clinch the doubles point. Estefania Balda then won 8-2 at flight three to give the Tigers their second doubles sweep of the season.

 

Keri Wong continued her strong singles play, dropping only one game in her 6-0, 6-1 win over Lauren Simpson at flight two. Ninth-ranked Josipa Bek the moved to 3-0 on the season, winning 6-1, 6-2 at flight one, as she celebrated her 22nd birthday.

 

113th-ranked Ina Hadziselimovic then took down Leonie Guijt at flight three, 6-3, 6-2 to move to 3-0. Nelly Ciolkowski moved to 10-1 in her freshman season, with a 6-2, 6-3 win at flight four.

 

Estefania Balda then fell at flight six, winning the first set, 7-5, but falling in two super tiebreak sets of 10-5 and 12-10.

 

Clemson returns to action on Saturday at 2:00 pm as they play #37 Texas A&M at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center in the opening rounds of the ITA Team Indoor National Championships. The winner will then play the winner of the #20 Mississippi vs. #32 Illinois match on Sunday at 2:00 pm with a bid to the Final 16 on the line. The losers will play at 9:00 am.
