Clemson Women’s Tennis Improves To 6-0 In The ACC With 6-1 Win Over Florida State

CLEMSON, S.C. – The #23 Clemson women’s tennis team improved its ACC record to 6-0 with its 6-1 win over the 48th-ranked Florida State Seminoles Sunday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Tigers are off to their best start in league play since the 1983 season in which the Tigers were undefeated in ACC competition. With this weekend’s win, Clemson improved its overall record to 16-3, while the Seminoles fall to 13-9 overall and 3-5 in ACC play.

Clemson won two out of three doubles matches to pick up the doubles point. The Tigers’ 31st-ranked duo of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet defeated Florida State’s Anca Dumitrescu and Mihaela Moldovan by a score of 8-6 at flight one. Clemson’s 59th-ranked team of Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie won an 8-5 decision over the Seminoles’ Amberly Tantee and Natalie Tirapelli at number two doubles. At flight three, the Tigers’ Richele LeSaldo and Ioana Paun fell to Brooke Cordell and Christina Denny by a score of 8-4.

In singles action, Clemson’s 21st-ranked and top-seeded Julie Coin defeated Florida State’s Anca Dumitrescu by a score of 6-2, 6-1. At number two singles, the Tigers’ Laurence Jayet won a 6-1, 6-1 decision over the Seminoles’ Alina Mihailescu at flight five singles. Clemson’s Anna Dolinska fell to Florida State’s Brooke Cordell by a score 7-6 (2), 4-6, 10-7 at flight six singles.

Clemson will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 12 as the Tigers play host to ACC rival Duke at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m.
