Clemson Women’s Tennis Falls to South Carolina

Athens, Ga. – The Clemson women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to 19th-ranked South Carolina Saturday afternoon in Clemson. The Tigers drop to 5-5 on the season while the Gamecocks improve to 5-2.

The lone singles victory of the day for Clemson was posted by junior Anna Savitakaya at the top singles position. Savitskaya defeated South Carolina’s Katarina Markovski 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Tigers’ Carmina Giraldo dropped a tough three-set match, 4-6, 7-6, 4-6 to Jennifer Radman at the two slot. South Carolina’s Kathy Boyanovich defeated Clemson’s Milena Stanoycheva 7-5, 6-2 at three singles, and Christina Oldock lost a 6-0, 6-0 match to South Carolina’s Lynn-Yin Tan at four singles. Clemson’s Laurence Jayet lost a close three-set decision to Tamara Sutton, 7-6, 4-6, 3-6 at the five spot. Ana Stiglic also lost close match at six singles, dropping 6-1, 4-6, 5-7 to South Carolina’s Leigh Eichelberger.

South Carolina swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The Gamecocks’ Radman and Boyanovich defeated Savitskaya and Anna Dolinska 8-6 at the top doubles position. Clemson’s Giraldo and Jayet lost to Tan and Eichelberger 8-4 at two doubles and South Carolina’s Markovski and Brown completed the sweep with an 8-5 win at three doubles.

Clemson will open their conference schedule on the road next weekend. The Tigers play Wake Forest Friday, Mar. 10, at 2:00 p.m. in Winston-Salem, NC, and then travel to Raleigh, NC, on Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. match at NC State.
