Clemson Women’s Tennis Falls To Sixth-Ranked Georgia, 6-1

CLEMSON, S.C. – The 21st-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team fell to sixth-ranked Georgia by a score of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon in Clemson. The Tigers fall to 6-2 on the season, while the Lady Bulldogs improve to 5-1 overall.

In doubles action, Clemson’s 42nd-ranked team of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet was defeated by Georgia’s 15th-ranked duo of Lori Grey and Agata Cioroch by a score of 8-5 at flight one. At number two doubles, the Tigers’ Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie won an 8-6 decision over Tina Hojnik and Evgenia Subbotina. Richele LeSaldo and Ana Stiglic of Clemson fell to the Lady Bulldogs’ Anne Nguyen and Douglas Wink 8-3 at flight three.

In singles play, #23 Coin dropped a heart-breaking 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 decision to #1 Agata Cioroch at the number one position. At flight two singles, Lacelarie lost a close 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(0) decision to 35th-ranked Anne Nguyen, while Stiglic lost 6-4, 6-2 to #60 Tina Hojnik at flight three. Clemson’s Daniela Alvarez was victorious at number four singles by a score of 6-3, 6-0 over #123 Lori Grey, while Jayet fell to Georgia’s Evgenia Subbotina 6-2, 6-1 at flight five. The Tigers’ Ioana Paun lost a hard-fought 7-6(3), 7-5 decision to Alex Smith at number six singles.

The Tigers will travel to Blacksburg, VA, to play the Virginia Tech Hokies on Feb. 28. The match is scheduled to start at 2:30 PM.
