Clemson Women’s Tennis Falls to Middle Tennessee State

CLEMSON, S.C.- The Clemson women’s tennis team was defeated by Middle Tennessee State on Sunday afternoon in Clemson by a score of 4-3. The Tigers record falls to 1-1 with the loss. In singles action, Clemson’s Anna Savitskaya lost at the number one position to the Blue Raider’s Manon Kruse by a score of 6-0, 6-4. Tiger freshman Alix Lacelarie defeated her MTSU opponent, Jennifer Klaschka, in three sets (6-1, 6-7(4), 6-1) at two singles. Milena Stanoycheva of Clemson fell at the three position, to MTSU’s Verena Preiss, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. The Tiger’s Laurence Jayet was defeated by Michaela Gridling by a score of 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(5) at number four singles. Clemson freshman Ioana Paun defeated the Blue Raider’s Carien Venter in three sets at the number five singles flight, 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4. At the six singles position, Clemson’s Ana Stiglic was victorious over Stacy Varnell of MTSU by a score of 6-4, 6-1. In doubles play, MTSU earned the doubles point, winning at each of the three flights. At number one doubles, Clemson’s Savitskaya and Jayet fell to Kruse and Varnell, 8-5. The Tiger’s team of Stanoycheva and Lacelarie fell to MTSU’s Preiss and Klaschka, 8-1, at the two doubles position. Anna Dolinska and Stiglic of Clemson were defeated by the Blue Raider’s Venter and Gridling by a score of 8-6 at flight three doubles. The Tigers will return to action against Georgia State on Friday, Feb. 8 at 2:30 PM in Clemson.
