CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson women’s tennis team lost a 6-1 decision to the 22nd-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday afternoon in Columbia. The Tigers’ record falls to 2-2, while South Carolina improves to 4-0.
In singles play, Clemson freshman Alix Lacelarie earned the Tigers’ lone victory in the match at number one singles over Katarina Markovski, 6-4, 6-3. At number two singles, senior Tiger Milena Stanoycheva fell to 71st-ranked Jennifer Radman by a score of 6-2, 6-0. Clemson’s Anna Savitskaya lost to the Gamecocks’ Kathy Boyanovich at flight three singles by a score of 6-0, 6-4. Tiger Ana Stiglic lost in three sets to South Carolina’s Lynn-Yin Tan, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at number four singles. At five singles, Clemson’s Ioana Paun fell to Tamara Sutton, 6-2, 6-0. Laurence Jayet of Clemson was defeated by #108 Jodi Kenoyer by a score of 7-5, 7-5 at the six singles position.
In flight one doubles action, the Tigers’ team of Savitskaya and Stanoycheva fell to South Carolina’s 26th-ranked team of Boyanovich and Radman, 8-5. Clemson’s Lacelarie and Jayet were defeated by Tan and Kenoyer (#36) of South Carolina by a score of 8-3 at number two doubles. At the three doubles position, Clemson’s Paun and Anna Dolinska lost an 8-2 decision to the Gamecocks’ Markovski and Brown.
The Tigers will play host to UNC Greensboro on Friday, Feb. 15 at 2:30 p.m. in Clemson.
