Clemson Women’s Tennis Defeats Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Clemson women’s tennis team defeated the Maryland Terrapins by a score of 7-0 in ACC action on Saturday. The 15th-ranked Tigers stand at 13-6 overall and 4-1 in league play, and have won their last eight matches, dating back to Mar. 5. All eight victories have been against ranked opponents, and Clemson has won the doubles point in all eight wins.

The Tigers won flights one and three to capture the doubles point and take a 1-0 advantage into singles play. At flight one, Julie Coin and Romy Farah defeated Maryland’s Ramona But and Veronika Subertova by a score of 8-2, while Alix Lacelarie and Carol Salge paired up at flight three to edge the Terrapins’ Tamar Huppes and Neda Minheva by a score of 9-8. Maryland’s Marianne Baker and Julia Graca escaped Clemson’s Maria Brito and Daniela Alvarez by a score of 9-8 at flight two.

In singles, second-ranked and top-seeded Julie Coin claimed her 27th victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Ramona But. At flight two, Romy Farah defeated Marianne Baker by a score of 6-3, 7-5, and Alix Lacelarie downed the Terrapins’ Veronika Subertova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 at flight four. Carol Salge completed the Lady Tigers’ sweep of the singles matches with a 6-1, 6-0 domination of Tamar Huppes.

The Lady Tigers will face 69th-ranked Virginia in a noon match in Charlottesville on Sunday, Apr. 3.
