Clemson Women’s Tennis Defeats Houston 6-1

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis defeated the University of Houston Cougars 6-1 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point, Clemson swept the singles matches to clinch the win. The Tigers improve to 6-7 on the season with the win over the Cougars (2-10).

Clemson’s top-seeded Anna Savitskaya defeated Sarah Borwell after Borwell retired following the first set while the Tiger’s Christina Oldock defeated Houston’s Kailey Meisinger 6-2, 6-0 at two singles. The Tiger’s Milena Stanoycheva defeated Jen Baccarani 6-0, 6-1 at the three singles position and Clemson’s Laurence Jayet defeated Karine Urbin 6-4, 6-1 at the four slot. Ana Stiglic picked up another point for Clemson at five singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Sarah Flood. The Tigers’ Anna Dolinska defeated Joanne Keene at six singles, 6-2, 6-2.

Houston won two out of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point for the Cougars. At the top doubles position, the Tigers’ Savitskaya and Jayet lost to Borwell and Annie Rapp 8-2, while the Cougar’s Urbin and Flood defeated Oldock and Stiglic 8-1 at two doubles. The Tigers’ third-seeded team of Stanoycheva and Dolinska defeated Houston’s Meisinger and Keene 8-4.

Clemson will travel to the University of Miami (FL) on Tuesday and then the Tigers play the University of South Florida Thursday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
