Clemson Women’s Tennis Defeats Georgia State

Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson Tiger women’s tennis team defeated Georgia State University Friday afternoon at the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center in Atlanta. The Tigers improved their overall record to 5-3 as Clemson defeated the Lady Panthers, 6-1.

At number one singles, Clemson’s Anna Savitskaya defeated the Lady Panther’s Mojca Pavlinic 6-2, 6-2. Senior Tiger Christina Oldock was defeated by her Lady Panther opponent, Mable Abraham, 0-6, 7-5, 7-5, in the two slot. Laurence Jayet of Clemson defeated Georgia State’s Jovana Krsikapa by a score of 6-3, 6-0 at number three singles. Clemson’s Milena Stanoycheva defeated Karin Etienne 6-2, 6-1 in the four singles position. Tiger Ana Stiglic was victorious in the five singles spot over Birgitte Blomberg by a score of 6-2, 6-2 while Clemson freshman Ashlea Bowen defeated Rebecca Mitchell 6-2, 6-2 at six singles.

Clemson swept the doubles matches to pick up the doubles point. The Tigers’ Savitskaya and Jayet defeated Abraham and Pavlinic 8-6 at the top doubles spot while Stanoycheva and Anna Dolinska won the two doubles match over Georgia State’s Krsikapa and Etienne 8-3. Stiglic and Oldock teamed up to defeated Blomberg and Mitchell 8-0 at the number three doubles slot.

Clemson (5-3) will travel to Athens, GA, Thursday, Mar. 1, to play the University of Georgia. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
