Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson Tiger women’s tennis team defeated the Furman Paladins 6-1 this afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Clemson improves to 3-1 on the season while Furman drops to 2-2 overall. The Tigers and Paladins have met on the tennis court 34 times, with Clemson claiming 32 of those matches. Clemson’s Carmina Giraldo defeated Furman’s Megan Dunnigan 6-4, 6-1, at the one singles position. At number two singles, Tiger Anna Savitskaya defeated Meredith Moore 6-3, 7-5. Clemson senior Christina Oldock lost a 7-5, 6-3 decision to Gene Holman at the three singles position while in the number four slot, the Tigers’ Laurence Jayet was victorious over Emelie Isaksson 6-1, 6-4. At five singles, the Tigers’ Milena Stanoytcheva defeated Furman’s Natalie The 7-5, 6-4, and Clemson’s Ana Stiglic won the six singles match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Krista Thomson. The duo of Giraldo and Savitskaya combined to win the number one doubles match 8-2 over the Paladins’ Dunigan and Moore. Clemson’s Stanoytcheva and Anna Dolinska defeated Furman’s Holman and The 8-6 to pick up the doubles point for the match. Jayet and Oldock lost an 8-4 decision to Thomson and Shellie Cochran at the three doubles position. Clemson (3-1) will face Middle Tennessee State University on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Singles 1 Carmina Giraldo (CU) def.
