PROVO, UT – The Clemson women’s tennis team defeated Boise State by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday in Provo, Utah. The Tigers improve to 12-3 on the season, while the Broncos are 8-5 overall. This was the first meeting between the teams. On Friday, Clemson will face Arizona State in Tempe at 2:00 PM. The series between Clemson and Arizona State is tied, with each team having won one match. The Tigers won the last meeting between the two teams, defeating the Sun Devils by a score of 5-4 during the 1987 season. This season, 31st-ranked Arizona State is 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the Pac-10.
In singles action, Daniela Alvarez dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Boise State’s Jemima Hayward. Maria Brito defeated the Broncos’ Erin Polowski by a score of 6-4, 6-0 at two singles and Karen Rombouts edged Alissa Ayling in three sets, 106, 6-3, 6-2. The Tigers’ Richele LeSaldo was victorious at four singles over Boise State’s Carolina Pongratz by a score of 6-2, 6-3. At number five singles, Boise State’s Megan Biorkman defeated the Tigers’ Silvia Gutierrez 8-3, and Alix Lacelarie of Clemson downed Tiffany Coll at six singles by a score of 8-3.
Clemson captured the doubles point, winning at the number one and number three positions. Top-seeded Daniela Alvarez defeated Boise State’s Hayward and Polowski by a score of 8-5, while Karen Rombouts dropped a hard-fought match at number two doubles, falling to Boise State’s Ayling and Biorkman by a score of 9-7.
