Clemson Women’s Tennis Competes At Southern Intercollegiate Tournament

COLUMBIA, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team competed at the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament held last weekend at the University of South Carolina. Laurence Jayet claimed the B-1 singles championship over teammate Richele LeSaldo, while Anna Dolinska won the B-2 singles flight.

In flight A-1 singles, Alix Lacelarie defeated Winthrop’s Judit Trunkos 6-4, 6-3, then dropped a close three-set match to Furman’s Megan Dunigan in the semi-finals. Lacelarie won a 6-2, 6-4 match over South Carolina’s Lynn-Yin tan, then defeated Furman’s Mary Kovarik 6-4, 6-2 to finish fifth in the flight.

Anna Savitskaya won her first-round A-1 singles match over Armstrong Atlantic State’s Anna Maria forgacs, 6-2, 2-1. In the semifinals, Savitskaya defeated Furman’s Mary Kovaric 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. Savitskaya defeated Coastal Carolina’s Melina Bajrambasic 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the finals where she lost a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Armstrong Atlantic State’s Zsofia Golopencza.

Ana Stiglic received a round one draw in the A-2 singles bracket. In the quarterfinals, Stiglic dropped a three-set match (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) to South Carolina’s Catherine Brown. In the consolation draw, Stiglic lost 6-3, 6-3, to Furman’s Mary Neil Hagood, then dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match to Furman’s Natalie The to finish eighth.

Milena Stanoycheva won her first round A-2 singles match over Wofford’s Candy Gore, 6-0, 6-2. She lost a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 match to South Carolina’s Tamara Sutton in the quarterfinals. Stanoycheva defeated Furman’s Natalie The 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, but dropped a 6-4, 6-3, decision to Furman’s Mary Neil Hagood.

Laurence Jayet won her first round match 6-0, 6-1, over Wofford’s Erin Hantske, then defeated Furman’s Shellie Cochran 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the semifinals. Jayet defeated furman’s Gene Holman, 6-4, 6-1, then defeated teammate Richele LeSaldo 6-3, 6-1, to win the flight title.

Sunnie Harmon lost a three-set match (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) to Coastal Carolina’s Marre Matrka in the first round of her B-1 singles flight. Harmon was forced to default the remainder of her matches due to injury.

In B-2 singles, Ashley Bowen defeated Western Carolina’s Kristen Cotton 6-2, 6-1, then defeated Coastal Carolina’s Karla Palmer 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals. South Carolina’s Audrey George defeated Bowen 7-6 (2), 6-1, then Bowen dropped a 6-1, 7-6(7) match to Furman’s K. Thompson to finish fourth.

Anna Dolinska won her first round B-1 match 6-1, 6-0 over Coastal Carolina’s Painter. She defeated Wofford’s Lauren Stephens 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals where she defeated Furman’s Thompson 6-3, 6-4. In the finals, Dolinska defeated South Carolina’s Audrey George 6-2, 6-2, to win the flight title.

In flight A doubles action, Lacelarie and Savitskaya defeated Wofford’s Rohr and Gore, 8-2. In the semifinals, they defeated South Carolina’s Markovski and Wojdylo 8-5. In the finals, South Carolina’s Kenoyer and Tan defeated Lacelarie and Savitskaya, 8-2.

In flight B doubles, Stiglic and Stanoycheva defeated Wofford’s Coleman and Whisenhunt 8-1 before dropping an 8-2 match to Furman’s Kovarik and Bentley. The Tigers finished third overall with an 8-5 win over Coastal Carolina’s Goffin and Matrka.

In flight C doubles, LeSaldo and Dolinska won their first round match, 8-0, over Coastal Carolina’s Palmer and Painter. Armstrong Atlantic’s Aguilar and Puch defeated the Tigers, 8-4. LeSaldo and Dolinska took third in the flight with an 8-4 win over Furman’s Holman and Thompson.

In the round robin D doubles flight, Jayet and Bowen won all three matches to claim the draw championship. They defeated Wofford’s Stereng and DeBerry 8-0, as well as Furman’s Hagood and Cochran, 8-3. They won by default over Western Carolina’s Cotton and Johnson.
