Clemson Women’s Tennis Claims Season-Opener 6-1 Over College Of Charleston

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team won its season opener 6-1 over College of Charleston Sunday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Overall, the Tigers have won 24 of their 27 season-opening home matches, and now own a 14-1 all-time record over the Cougars.

Clemson claimed the doubles point, winning every match. At flight one doubles, Julie Coin and Daniela Alvarez defeated College of Charleston’s Gabriela Moreira and Maike Hartung 8-2. Clemson’s Alix Lacelarie and Laurence Jayet claimed flight two doubles, defeating Rachel Magory and Lauren Stewart 8-4. The Tigers’ Ana Stiglic and Richele LeSaldo won at flight three doubles, 8-0, over the Cougars’ Emily Scatuorchio and Charlotte Wilson.

In singles play, Clemson’s top-seeded Julie Coin defeated Rachel Magory 6-1, 6-2. The Tigers’ Daniela Alvarez won her first collegiate match by a score of 6-0, 6-0 over the Cougars’ Maike Hartung. Clemson’s Laurence Jayet won the flight four singles match by a score of 6-2, 6-2 over Lauren Stewart. At flight five singles, Ana Stiglic of Clemson defeated Emily Scatuorchio by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Ioana Paun defeated College of Charleston’s Jenna Marks 6-3, 6-2 to claim the flight six singles match.

Clemson women’s tennis (1-0) returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 2 in Mobile, AL, as the Tigers face the University of South Alabama in a 10:00 AM match.
